5 Phases of the Lean Roadmap

Phase 0:

Get Started and Get Focused

Students will review the fundamental Lean concepts, and work with Lean coaches to select an area as a “pilot” area that needs improving.

You and your Lean coach will begin to create your Lean Roadmap

Phase 1: Study the pilot area:

Identify several problem areas:

  • Learn to use the Lean PDCA (Plan, Do, Check, Act) Lean method to manage the activity.

  • Study the Value Stream.

  • Identify and remove waste in the Value Stream.

Phase 2:

Study the Value Stream

  • Learn to use the 5 Lean tools to investigate causes

  • Learn to conduct Brainstorming sessions to find the Root Cause of the problem

Phase 3:

Identify Areas to Improve

  • Students identify areas in the Value Stream to improve

  • Select Lean tools to use to make improvements

Phase 4: Implement The Solution

Implement The Solution

  • Identify a Solution

  • Create a system to sustain the solution

Phase 5: Evaluation Of The Training

Establish Success Measurements

  • Create a system to maintain the good results.

  • Walk through the system with the management and employees from the piolet area.

  • Explain improvements during the walk through.

  • Continue the Roadmap by beginning a new session in a different area or continue to go deeper with the activity in this same area.

Phase Description

The Pilot Area is a “controlled area” where students can “Learn by Doing”.

Lean is about making continuous, small improvements daily. At this point students are not suppose to dazzle the world with their improvements.

Learning takes place as students make small, daily improvements in one area.

The Pilot area will be a part of The “Value Stream” The value stream is the stream that the main product flows through.

The value stream is studied from the ordering process, assembly of parts to the shipping of the final product.

Students are introduced to the Cause and Effect diagram, often called the “Fishbone” diagram. This tool helps students identify the Root cause of the problem.

Students identify areas within the Value Stream and Lean tools to use to make improvements

After the solution has been implemented, the results are evaluated.

If the solution is the right one, the students will create a new system and see that it is maintained.

The final test of the training is to invite the student and their leaders to do ma walkthrough of the area.

Students will present their work and answer questions from the audience. We find this is a great way to motivate other employees to become involved in the Lean training.

A Few of Our Valued Clients

Are We A Match?

Sometimes, learning about Lean and then trying to implement Lean can be quite challenging.

Reading a book about Lean or watching videos are great ways to educate people.

But implementing Lean takes a little more coaching and support.

We want to make sure you or you and your team are a match for the challenge before you join. And to do this, we provide an opportunity to talk with us about the course, about your goals, the size of the project and your expectations for the course before you commit.

We have attached an Interest Form that will help us know you better. (See next steps). After we review your interest application we will set up a time where we can talk by Zoom or phone to get to know one another more and discuss your expected outcome from the course.
