Partner Study Program
Learning Lean Together
A Lean Story:
I once worked with a Lean consulting group that was just beginning their Lean journey.
They were experts in Lean but didn’t have a location or client to use for a model to demonstrate the value of their Lean work.
Eventually they found a small manufacturing plant willing to provide office space and a facility that could be used to show the Lean improvement in exchange for Lean training.
Guess what?
The clint benefited time and time again as the employees received free training.
Costs were reduced, productivity and quality increased but most important of all, the improvements came from employees as they took pride in their improvements.
And, as the facility was kept in constant readiness for new Lean tours the improvements were also sustained.

Our Partners Come From A Variety Of Businesses
Lean is the study of the way in which the work flows. And Lean has a set of tools, that when used properly, can help reduce waste and greatly reduce cost in the process of eliminating waste, efficiency.
Lean is currently being used in almost every industry thought-out the world.
Hospitals
A team of nurses studied waste in their work during a shift.
Together they coordinated the way material was stored in storerooms from floor to floor.
They color coded, labeled the shelving, and placed standard markings where items are to be stored when not in use.
A simple parking lot system was set up to “park” wheel chairs not in use.
The nurses recorded a savings of nearly 6 labor hours in one 8 hour shift.
A Bakery
A cake department in a large commercial bakery was able to reduce the cost of labor by 10% as they formed a one-piece-flow in the cake decorating process.
The cakes flowed from the cake cooling area through the cake cutting and decorating process and into the cake box - one cake at a time seamlessly.
A Training Department
A training department set up a simple “Kanban” signaling system to control the supply of training material.
As one class ended, the “signal” container was given to a “re-fill team” to sort and restock the material.
The next class could begin without the usual hunting, searching and making copies.
Training material was ready when needed for the next class.

PURPOSE
The Lean Learning Academy is constantly looking for better ways to deliver Lean training.
During the past several years, much of the traditional classroom training has been converted to “Online” training.
This study is to help us “Learn by Doing” as we work directly with a partner to improve our method of Online Lean training.
